(VIDEO) How Audit Temps Can Improve Your Firm’s Staff Retention

Apr 2025 | Blog

This morning I read a post on Linkedin where a Partner of an audit firm (in America) stated that the accountancy job market has lost 10,000 jobs in the last year. Please note that he was citing US sources and this would therefore be not as sizeable as the UK.

However, we have felt it. We have felt there be less audit roles than prior years.

Although with that being said 2025 is showing signs of improvement and GPN have placed 18 auditors into roles (spanning both temp and perm) within London (and the surrounding areas) since the beginning of February 2025.

He cited: “Some of it is tech-driven. Automation, AI, and outsourced teams are replacing traditional roles. But it’s also a talent pipeline problem. Fewer students are entering the profession. Burnout and long hours are pushing experienced professionals out. And firms are struggling to retain talent who want more than a paycheck—they want purpose, flexibility, and growth.”

Out of the list of reasons he cited, one of them is retention – and that ‘burnout and long hours are pushing experienced professionals out.’ This is where I can help.

We do see burnout in audit – we do see those move into industry because they feel overworked in their audit careers and they believe “this is how audit is” and then they leave the profession.

Yes there are busier peaks, yes there are challenging periods, but this is where we come in. Please watch the video at the top of this page to learn how Audit Temps Can Improve Your Firm’s Staff Retention.

On the video, you will see that I tailored it for the Financial Services sector – but please note this is completely applicable to both Corporate & Not for Profit audit too.

Retention is not a buzzword. It is a vital component to your firm’s success – and as professionals operating within the UK accountancy practice sector, we do need to ensure that our profession remains as attractive as possible to those looking to start their careers and those looking to continue their careers.
